The Mahaan was also in the news recently when one of its dishes was refused entry into the USA a take-away chicken tikka masala was prepaned and flown 4,000 miles as a birthday surprise for a British curry fan living in America.

It was meant for Mark Wilson, who often spoke longingly of curries from the Mahaan, his favourite restaurant. Friends arranged for two meals to be flown business class in sealed containers from Gatwick to him and his wife Tracey in Cleveland, Ohio.

The couple never tasted this particular curry’s delights, however. Cleveland customs officers impounded the meals, saying it was illegal to import fresh food.
